Our detached house is a second home where we occasionally go any time of the year, or some weeks in summer with the children, who travel with me sometimes in their school holidays.
The house is at the end of the village, on the way to the sea in a calm road, where almost no cars pass, which is great for children to play in the street. It has two double bedrooms, the children’s has twin beds and the top bedroom has a queen size bed, a bathroom, a studio where two can sleep, with a terrace with stunning views facing the sea from one side and the village from the other.
The living/dining room on the ground floor is very lively. It has a fire place, and a dining table; there is also a beautiful bathroom at ground level. The kitchen is not large but fully equipped, with a washing machine and a small dishwasher. We also have a small patio behind. The house sleeps 4 comfortably, and 6 if we count the studio. There is a TV set and internet access. There is residential parking available. The beach is at a very pleasant 20-minute walk. It is a stone cove, very charming, with nice places to eat.
Deià is a remarkable small coastal village on the northern ridge of Mallorca. It is about ten miles north of Valldemossa, and it is known for its literary and musical residents. Its idyllic landscape, orange and olive groves on steep cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean has made of Deià a haven for artists, musicians and writers since the early 20th century, many of them making their permanent homes in and around the Village.
You have practically everything you need. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and some kids entertainment, as well as supermarkets and pharmacy. It is a small beautiful village but you can find what you need, if not, in the villages close to Deià, such as Valldemossa (6 Km) and Soller (10 Kms). The house, although centrally located, is very calm. There is a fountain in front of it and it is wonderful to hear the water, and the bells of the sheep and the smell of the orange trees.
The “cala”, the cove, lies down a dusty track through the olive groves, where the few remaining fishermen still go out at dawn to cast their nets. It can be reached by car, but it is a long way round, and the walk is delightful.
We have Spanish, English and French speaking staff to greet you at your arrival at the village, if necessary at the airport. They can be contacted should anything go wrong. As cleaning is not included we can provide cleaning services at the usual local rates.
It is advisable to rent a car if you are planning to travel around the island of Mallorca, not necessary if you prefer to stay in Deia or move around in taxis and buses to other villages or Palma for large shopping.
My name is Sybilla, I am an American designer, resident in Spain since I was 10, mother of two, Lucas (20) and Bruno 17, (currently in China) has a dog, Rosi.
We live in Madrid. I have to travel a lot for my profession and as this house is my second home, we also like renting it and have in fact rented the house on numerous occasions and it has always worked successfully.
I would love to exchange for a nice place in NYC, where I have to go often, preferably downtown, although I am open to see other locations. Another city I would exchange for would be Boston from October 2013, I am open to any other places, surprise me!
